La Germana

La Germana is one of the most genuine wines from Celler Pascona, capturing the youthful and free-spirited essence of the winery. Its name, meaning “the sister” in Catalan, conveys warmth, familiarity, and a sense of closeness. This is a wine that needs no formality to charm. It wins hearts with honesty, freshness, and a straightforward, unpretentious approach to winemaking.

Crafted from 60% Garnacha Blanca, 35% Macabeo, and 5% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, La Germana is rooted in clay-rich soils that provide fruit intensity, structure, and a solid foundation for a white wine with body and personality. This natural strength is beautifully balanced by the cooler climate of Falset, one of Montsant’s freshest subzones, which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and retain vibrant acidity.

Like all of Pascona’s white wines, La Germana undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation, a rarity in Spanish whites. This natural process softens the wine’s edges, adds volume, and creates a silky, enveloping mouthfeel that enhances its complexity without losing its freshness. The result is a white wine that is expressive and layered, yet effortlessly approachable.

With no oak influence, La Germana remains a pure expression of its varieties and terroir. It is versatile at the table, pairing beautifully with fish, rice dishes, vegetarian plates, or Asian cuisine, yet equally delightful to enjoy on its own. Its combination of brightness and depth makes it a standout wine with a distinct personality. La Germana captures the fresher side of Montsant and lingers in memory for its natural charm, authenticity, and easy connection, much like a sister who understands you without a single word.

PRODUCTION METHOD
La Germana is made from Macabeo, Garnacha Blanca, and Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (Moscatel de Grano Menudo), grown in clay-rich soils that provide the wine with structure and generous fruit expression. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed to obtain pure, aromatic must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and all white wines at Pascona undergo spontaneous malolactic fermentation, a rare approach in Spanish whites. This natural conversion softens acidity and enhances texture, giving La Germana its distinctive mouthfeel and character.
AGING
Aged on fine lees in stainless steel to enhance roundness and preserve aromatic freshness.
TASTING NOTE
Bright straw yellow with green reflections. Aromas of ripe peach, white flowers, and delicate hints of orange blossom from the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. On the palate, it is fresh yet rounded, with juicy fruit, a soft creamy texture, and a long, vibrant finish.
