La Mare

La Mare is a distinctive Garnacha Negra from Montsant crafted in very limited quantities to reflect precision, origin, and identity. The name means “the mother” in Catalan, and therefore it symbolizes continuity, protection, and foundation. From the first impression, this Garnacha Negra from Montsant reveals depth and balance while maintaining a clear connection to its terroir.

The selected vineyards benefit from Montsant’s Mediterranean climate. Warm days encourage full ripening, while cooler nights preserve acidity. As a result, the grapes achieve phenolic maturity without losing freshness. The team harvests entirely by hand, and they carefully select each cluster in the vineyard. Because production remains intentionally small, the winemakers monitor every stage closely and adjust decisions with precision.

In the cellar, the team ferments the grapes under controlled conditions to preserve varietal clarity. They manage extraction carefully to maintain structure without excessive weight. Moreover, they avoid unnecessary intervention, allowing Garnacha Negra to express its character transparently. Consequently, the wine develops aromatic definition and textural refinement.

On the nose, ripe red berries combine with subtle floral hints and gentle spice. In addition, a discreet mineral undertone reflects the soils of Montsant. On the palate, the wine shows concentration yet remains composed. Fine tannins provide structure, while integrated acidity supports balance and length. Therefore, the finish unfolds gradually, offering persistence and harmony rather than power alone.

By focusing exclusively on Garnacha Negra from Montsant, La Mare expresses authenticity and restraint. It captures maturity without heaviness and intensity without exaggeration. Ultimately, this Garnacha Negra from Montsant stands as a precise and deliberate interpretation of Montsant’s native variety.

PRODUCTION METHOD
La Mare is crafted exclusively from old-vine Garnacha planted on the Pascona estate’s granitic slopes. These vines, among the oldest in the property, yield naturally small harvests, concentrating aromas, flavors, and texture in every grape. Harvest is done entirely by hand to ensure only the best fruit is selected. The grapes are gently destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to capture the essence of the variety. Each parcel is vinified separately before blending, allowing the full personality of the Garnacha to emerge in perfect harmony.
AGING
Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, which add subtle spice, depth, and a rounded texture while maintaining the wine’s natural freshness.
TASTING NOTE
La Mare displays a deep picota cherry color with bright purple edges. On the nose, ripe blackberries and plums mingle with delicate vanilla and soft toasted notes. The palate is generous, with velvety tannins and a core of rich fruit lifted by a fresh, vibrant finish.
