Bocca Roble: Ribera del Duero, where tradition meets modernity

Bocca Roble is a Ribera del Duero red wine made from 100% Tempranillo by Bodegas Hercal. From the winery’s own vineyards in Roa, it brings together the region’s winemaking heritage and a fresh, contemporary spirit.

A name with roots in the past

The name Bocca comes from the Spanish word boca, meaning “mouth”. Even its spelling tells a story: Bocca, with a double “c”, can be found in Old Castilian, the language from which modern Spanish evolved.

Behind the name lies a simple idea: a great wine is remembered not only for its taste, but for the moments we share over a glass. The mouth is where we savour wine, but also where conversations begin, stories are told and laughter is shared. Bocca celebrates those connections and the memories created around a table with family and friends.

A modern spirit, a playful perspective

This connection between past and present is at the heart of Bocca. The name looks back to Old Castilian, while the clown on the label brings a playful, contemporary attitude. Together, they express the idea behind the wine: to carry the winemaking traditions of Ribera del Duero forward with a fresh perspective.

Unexpected and a little unconventional, the clown challenges the sometimes overly serious image of traditional wine. It invites us to approach each bottle with curiosity and reminds us that great wine is, above all, meant to be enjoyed.

The character of Ribera del Duero in every glass

That same balance shapes the wine itself. Tempranillo from Bodegas Hercal’s estate vineyards gives Bocca Roble its vibrant berry fruit and freshness. Nine months of ageing in French and American oak add subtle toasted notes, spice and texture, allowing the fruit to remain at the centre of its character.

Bocca brings tradition and modernity together: honouring the past while daring to see things differently. Rooted in Ribera del Duero and made for moments of connection, it brings its story to life whenever a bottle is opened and the conversation begins.

PRODUCTION METHOD

Bocca Roble is crafted from 100% Tempranillo (Tinta del País) sourced from the estate’s vineyards in Roa, on the high plateaus of Santa Lucía and La Conejera. These vines, aged between 15 and 35 years, yield around 6,000 kg per hectare, producing concentrated and balanced grapes. Harvesting is done with precision to ensure optimal ripeness. The must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts, preserving the authenticity of its terroir. Extraction is gentle, designed to capture fruit expression without overpowering tannins. This minimal intervention approach highlights the natural character of the Ribera del Duero landscape.

AGING

Aged 9 months in French oak (20%) and American oak (80%), which adds structure, subtle toast, and complexity while maintaining vibrant fruit.

TASTING NOTE

Bocca Roble shows an intense cherry-red colour with violet hues. On the nose, it unfolds aromas of ripe black fruits, interwoven with hints of vanilla, spice, and delicate toasted notes. The palate is round and full, with layers of fruit and oak in harmony. Its smooth tannins and balanced acidity lead to a persistent, elegant finish.
