Vila-Closa Garnacha Negra

Vila-Closa Garnacha Negra reflects the bold yet refined personality of Terra Alta’s most emblematic red grape. Its name pays tribute to the “Vila-Closa,” the historic fortified village at the heart of Batea, where tradition and craftsmanship have been preserved for centuries. On the label, the key and lock symbolise a gateway to the true essence of the region.

Crafted entirely from Garnacha Negra, the wine is vinified using indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes. This method, combined with minimal use of sulfites, allows both fruit and terroir to express themselves with purity. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks keeps the profile fresh and aromatic. After this stage, the wine spends three months in French oak, gaining gentle notes of spice and a touch of complexity while preserving the fruit’s natural charm.

The vineyards enjoy abundant sunshine, yet the Cierzo and Garbí winds help maintain acidity and balance. In addition, the limestone and clay soils contribute a subtle mineral thread that enhances depth and structure. These natural conditions allow Garnacha Negra to develop its full Mediterranean character while retaining elegance.

Vila-Closa Garnacha Negra is versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, cured cheeses and hearty stews. It is also a pleasure to enjoy on its own, offering a smooth, fruit-forward profile with just the right amount of oak influence. Therefore, it is a wine that bridges tradition and modernity, appealing to those who value both authenticity and approachability.

PRODUCTION METHOD
Vila-Closa Garnacha Negra is made exclusively from Garnacha Negra grapes, carefully selected from vineyards in Terra Alta. The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness to capture a balance of fruit intensity and freshness. After destemming, fermentation takes place with the grape’s own indigenous yeasts, a process possible only with healthy fruit grown under minimal intervention. This natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatics. The wine then undergoes gentle extraction to maintain supple tannins before being prepared for aging.
AGING
Aged for three months in French oak barrels, adding subtle spice and structure while respecting the fruit’s natural character.
TASTING NOTE
Deep ruby-red with violet glints. The nose is full of ripe red and black fruits such as cherries, plums and blackberries, enriched by hints of sweet spice. On the palate, it is smooth and rounded, with soft tannins and a persistent, elegant finish.
