A Free Soul from Rueda

MOFO Verdejo, nicknamed The Free Soul, was created to show a gastronomic and characterful face of Verdejo. It is vibrant and nuanced, made for those who value authenticity, texture and a distinct profile without losing the essence of its origin. Produced in Nava del Rey, in the heart of the Rueda appellation, it reclaims Verdejo’s place at the table throughout the year, not just in summer.

The Terroir of Nava del Rey

Nava del Rey belongs to the historic Tierra del Vino. Here, the vines grow at altitudes between 740 and 800 meters, rooted in stony soils with a clay-sandy base. These soils drain well while retaining deep humidity, an essential factor in an area with less than 400 millimeters of rainfall annually. The extreme continental climate, with hot days and cool nights, creates tension and balance in the grapes, resulting in expressive and precise Verdejo.

Gastronomic and Authentic

MOFO Verdejo is not a fleeting white. With its freshness and volume, it adapts easily to diverse cuisine: from rice and oily fish to goat cheese, spicy dishes and Asian food with a touch of heat. It is also a pleasure on its own, enjoyed slowly and without rules.

PRODUCTION METHOD
MOFO Verdejo is made from 100% Verdejo grown in the heart of Rueda. The vineyards, averaging 18 years of age, are planted in sandy and stony soils that bring freshness and aromatic intensity. Grapes are harvested at night to preserve acidity and prevent oxidation. Fermentation lasts 19 days in stainless-steel vats under controlled temperature of 13 °C, ensuring aromatic precision and varietal purity.
AGING
The wine rests for 4 months on fine lees in stainless steel, with 5% of the volume aged the same time in French oak barrels. This small oak component does not add noticeable oak flavors, but it provides roundness and a gastronomic character.
TASTING NOTE
MOFO Verdejo shows a pale straw-yellow color with greenish tones. Aromas of fennel, herbs and citrus zest are joined by hints of stone fruit. On the palate it is fresh and lively, with a zesty bitterness typical of Verdejo. Lees contact adds smoothness and volume, while the subtle oak component rounds the texture, making the wine both crisp and gastronomic.
