Surrealista Negre

Surrealista Negre captures the essence of Alt Empordà, a land where Mediterranean climate, slate soils and the Tramuntana wind converge. The blend unites Lledoner Negre (the Empordà name for Garnacha Negra) with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cariñena, creating a wine that is both Mediterranean and cosmopolitan. Each grape adds its voice: Garnacha brings fruit and warmth, Syrah contributes spice, Cabernet structure, and Cariñena a fresh, mineral edge.

The philosophy of Surrealista is minimal intervention, letting the vineyard speak for itself. Each variety ferments separately at controlled temperature, ensuring purity of aromas. After gentle extraction and malolactic fermentation, the wine rests for more than 18 months in bottle. This slow evolution softens tannins, integrates flavors and gives harmony. The result is a red that combines depth with elegance, crafted with precision and respect for the fruit.

The name Surrealista evokes the cultural legacy of Empordà, a region that inspired Salvador Dalí and the surrealist movement. Just as art challenged perceptions of reality, this wine reimagines the traditional red of Empordà with freshness and balance. Aromas of ripe fruit and Mediterranean herbs connect it to its landscape, while the mineral finish recalls the slate soils. Gastronomically, it is versatile: ideal with roasted chicken, duck with prunes, grilled vegetables or autumn stews. With 4,000 bottles made, Surrealista Negre is an artisanal wine that reflects the land’s character and creative spirit.

PRODUCTION METHOD
Surrealista Negre is a blend of 60% Lledoner Negre (Garnacha Negra), 30% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cariñena. The vines, aged between 20 and 40 years, grow on a mix of clay and slate soils in Garriguella, Alt Empordà. Each variety is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks at around 20ºC to preserve freshness and varietal character. Two pump-overs per day ensure gentle extraction. After 20 to 30 days of maceration, depending on the grape, the wine is racked. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel. Before bottling, only minimal clarification and filtration are applied.

More than a year and a half resting in bottle, which rounds the tannins and refines the expression of the blend
TASTING NOTE
Intense cherry red with garnet reflections, dense tears and natural brightness. On the nose, it opens with ripe black fruit such as cherry and plum, combined with licorice, black pepper, rosemary and thyme. Subtle balsamic and mineral notes add freshness and depth. The palate is juicy, with medium body, fine well-integrated tannins and lively natural acidity that shapes a balanced and vibrant profile. The finish is long and persistent, with fruit, spice and a delicate saline touch typical of Empordà soils.
