Karma de Drac Negre

Karma de Drac Negre is a Montsant red that unites tradition and minimal intervention in a bold, expressive way. It is crafted mainly from Cariñena, a variety deeply rooted in the Mediterranean, blended with Garnacha Negra and Cabernet Sauvignon from vines planted between the 1970s and 1980s. These vineyards, located in Falset at around 400 meters above sea level, grow on clay soils that bring both power and freshness to the grapes.

The winemaking philosophy is pure and transparent: manual harvest, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, gentle handling, and no sulfites added. Everything is designed to preserve the natural character of the fruit and express the terroir without artifice. This makes Karma de Drac Negre a genuine natural wine, biodynamic and vegan, with an identity tied to its land.

The name “Karma de Drac” evokes the force of the dragon, a symbol of energy and transformation in Mediterranean folklore. This wine reflects that spirit: mysterious yet approachable, powerful yet fresh. Its juicy fruit, herbal undertones, and long finish speak of Montsant’s wild beauty and its ability to produce wines of both strength and elegance.

With a limited production of 10,000 bottles, it is a wine that embraces the present while echoing ancestral ways of making wine. Karma de Drac Negre Natural is not just a red wine but a declaration of authenticity for those who seek vibrant, soulful expressions beyond convention.

PRODUCTION METHOD

Made mainly from Cariñena, complemented by Garnacha Negra and Cabernet Sauvignon, from vines planted in the 1970s and 1980s around Falset, in the Montsant appellation. Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully selected, and destemmed. Whole berries ferment spontaneously with their native yeasts at low temperature (18 °C) for 21 days. Malolactic fermentation also occurs naturally and lasts about three weeks. The wine is then gently racked, very softly filtered (40 microns), and bottled without the addition of sulfites.

AGING

Rested in stainless steel tanks during the winter and later refined in bottle, maintaining freshness and authenticity.

TASTING NOTE

Bright ruby-red with violet reflections and medium depth. The nose is intense and elegant, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, undergrowth, and Mediterranean herbs, along with balsamic hints that add complexity. On the palate it is juicy and fresh, with soft, sweet tannins and a lively acidity that keeps it balanced. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a vibrant memory of fruit and herbs.
