Molt Picapoll

A tribute to Picapoll Blanc in Pla de Bages

Molt Picapoll, from the winery Més Que Paraules, is a celebration of the native Picapoll Blanc, grown in the heart of Canet de Fals in Fonollosa, within the D.O. Pla de Bages. Its name, meaning “Much Picapoll” in Catalan, reflects the abundance of personality this grape offers when rooted in its ideal terroir. The vineyards lie on clay-limestone soils with rounded pebbles, at about 500 metres altitude, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and a long winemaking tradition.

A climate that shapes the grape

The region receives between 500 and 600 mm of rainfall each year, mostly in spring and autumn. However, summers are warm and dry, which challenges the vines. Picapoll has adapted perfectly to these conditions. Thanks to its deep roots, it can draw moisture from the limestone layers and resist drought and heat. As a result, it produces grapes with lively acidity, moderate alcohol, and a natural balance between freshness and body.

Sustainable winemaking philosophy

The winery follows Integrated Production and vegan certification, placing sustainability at the heart of its approach. In addition, harvesting takes place in two stages. The first is earlier, to capture freshness and acidity, while the second is later, to bring fuller ripeness and a rounder profile. This method allows the winemaker to create a balanced wine that combines tension and generosity.

An artisanal touch in the cellar

Aging is carried out equally in clay amphorae and stainless steel tanks. The amphorae provide gentle micro-oxygenation and enhance the mineral character, while stainless steel preserves the clean, fresh profile of the grape. Each of the 1,700 bottles produced is a testament to the winery’s dedication to authenticity. Light and elegant yet full of character, Molt Picapoll captures the essence of Pla de Bages and invites wine lovers to discover a unique and vibrant expression of this native variety.

PRODUCTION METHOD
Made from 100% Picapoll Blanc, Molt Picapoll comes from two parcels planted in 2016 and in the late 1990s, rooted in clay-limestone soils with surface pebbles in Canet de Fals, Fonollosa. Yields are kept low at 3,500 kg/ha. Harvesting is done in two stages: the first earlier to capture freshness and higher acidity, and the second later to achieve fuller ripeness and richer fruit expression.
AGING
Six months on lees, split equally between clay amphorae and stainless steel tanks, to combine texture and aromatic complexity with freshness and precision.
TASTING NOTE
Bright straw yellow with greenish highlights. The nose is fresh and expressive, with pear, green apple and peach, followed by citrus tones of lime and grapefruit, floral hints of jasmine, and subtle herbal notes. The palate is lively and juicy, with crisp acidity, a gentle saline touch and a mineral finish that reflects the limestone soils. White fruits dominate, supported by citrus zest and a delicate almond note.
