Molt Mandó

A tribute to Mandó in Pla de Bages

Molt Mandó, from the winery Més Que Paraules, is a tribute to the native Mandó grape. Once on the verge of disappearing, it is now cultivated again in the heart of Canet de Fals, Fonollosa, within the D.O. Pla de Bages. Its name, meaning “Much Mandó” in Catalan, celebrates the richness and individuality of this variety. The vines grow in clay-limestone soils with rounded pebbles, at about 500 metres altitude, in a landscape shaped by history and tradition.

A climate that challenges and shapes the vine

The region receives between 500 and 600 mm of rain each year, mostly in spring and autumn. However, summers are warm and dry, testing the resilience of the vines. Mandó’s late ripening and natural resistance to heat allow it to thrive, producing wines that are fresh, elegant and balanced. Low yields of just 3,500 kg/ha ensure quality and concentration. In addition, careful vineyard management optimises ventilation and sun exposure for perfectly ripened clusters.

Sustainability at the core

The winery follows Integrated Production and produces exclusively vegan wines, placing sustainability at the centre of its philosophy. From the “Camp de la Barraca” vineyard, only 2,900 bottles are made each year. Each bottle reflects a dedication to preserving local heritage. Above all, the wine stands out for its fresh acidity, soft tannins and moderate alcohol. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for those seeking a delicate and versatile red. It pairs beautifully with white meats, creamy rice dishes and Mediterranean cuisine.

Heritage in every bottle

Pla de Bages is a land with a deep winemaking legacy, marked by Roman and medieval influences, and dotted with traditional dry-stone huts. This sense of place is woven into every bottle of Molt Mandó. Aging in clay amphorae enhances the grape’s mineral profile and brings an added layer of elegance. As a result, the wine becomes more than just a drink. It offers an experience that connects past and future, inviting you to discover the authenticity of a unique terroir and the passion of a winery committed to its land.

PRODUCTION METHOD
Made from 100% Mandó, this wine comes from a single parcel planted in 2016 in Canet de Fals, within the municipality of Fonollosa. The vineyard is rooted in clay-limestone soils with surface pebbles and has a planting density of 1.2 x 3 metres, yielding around 3,500 kg/ha. The goal is to preserve the variety’s delicate profile, so fermentation uses natural yeasts and gentle extraction. Grapes undergo a 15-day maceration with alternating pigeage and occasional remontage. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures
AGING
Aged for 12 months, with 70% in clay amphorae and 30% in used French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop texture and complexity while preserving varietal purity
TASTING NOTE
Bright ruby red with violet reflections, indicating youth and freshness. The nose offers medium to high intensity, with fresh red fruits like cherry and raspberry, joined by plum, wildflowers, and subtle white pepper. Herbaceous and mineral hints reveal the influence of the terroir. On the palate, it is balanced and elegant, with soft tannins, lively acidity, and a fresh, fruity finish that lingers pleasantly.
