Vila-Closa Chardonnay Barrica
Vila-Closa Chardonnay Barrica offers a refined interpretation of one of the world’s most famous grapes, shaped by the sun and winds of Terra Alta. Its name pays tribute to the “Vila-Closa,” the historic fortified village of Batea, where tradition and craftsmanship have been preserved for centuries. The key and lock on the label symbolise access to the true essence of the region.
The wine is sourced from 40-year-old Chardonnay vines that yield concentrated, flavour-rich grapes. Fermentation is split between stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. This approach allows the wine to retain bright fruit while gaining depth and texture from the barrel-fermented portion. Lees contact in oak adds subtle creaminess and enhances complexity without overshadowing the variety’s natural character.
Terra Alta’s climate plays a crucial role. Warm Mediterranean days are tempered by the Cierzo and Garbí winds, which preserve acidity and freshness. The limestone and clay soils contribute a fine mineral note, tying together the fruit and oak elements.
Aging for four months in French oak imparts delicate spice, toasted nuances, and a silky texture. Therefore, Vila-Closa Chardonnay Barrica is both elegant and versatile. It pairs beautifully with grilled fish, creamy pasta dishes, roast poultry, or simply enjoyed on its own as a complex yet approachable white.
