Mudèfer Criança Negre 150cl
Mudèfer Criança Negre 150cl
Mudèfer Criança Negre is the most elegant and mature expression of Terra Alta’s native red varieties. Its name honours Mount Mudèfer, a natural formation that dominates the local landscape and shelters the winery’s oldest vineyards.
These Cariñena and Garnacha Negra vines are planted on natural terraces over “panal” soils, a fossilised sand formation unique to the region. Situated between 400 and 550 metres above sea level and surrounded by forests, they grow in conditions of low annual rainfall, typically under 400 mm. This environment encourages healthy vines, minimal intervention, and maximum expression of terroir.
The winds play a decisive role in the wine’s character. During the day, the dry Cierzo wind from the northwest sweeps through the vineyards, keeping the plants healthy and reducing the need for treatments. In the evening, the Garbí, a gentle sea breeze, brings moisture and cools the air, allowing slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. This unique meeting of continental and Mediterranean influences produces wines with power, structure, and a natural acidity that invites another sip.
Winemaking follows a respectful and precise approach. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of each variety. The wine is then aged for eight to ten months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, gaining body, silky texture, and aromatic complexity.
The result is a red of striking aromatic intensity, with ripe red fruit, hints of jam, toasted notes, and subtle smokiness. On the palate, it is broad, vibrant, and balanced, with fine silky tannins and a long finish that reflects the authenticity of its origin.
Mudèfer Criança Negre is perfect for lovers of age-worthy reds. It pairs beautifully with traditional dishes, roasted red meats, mountain stews, and cured cheeses. It is a wine that speaks of land, wind, and the serene beauty of Terra Alta.
