S’Àmfora Mudèfer Blanc
S’Àmfora Mudèfer Blanc is a distinctive white wine that brings together the oldest Garnacha Blanca vineyards of Celler La Botera, the craftsmanship of barrel aging, and the innovation of underwater maturation. It belongs to the Mudèfer range, the winery’s flagship collection, named after Mount Mudèfer, a landmark that dominates the surrounding landscape and shelters some of Terra Alta’s most precious vines.
The grapes come from old vines rooted in “panal” soils, a fossilised sand formation unique to the region. At altitudes between 400 and 550 metres and surrounded by forest, these vines grow in conditions of low rainfall, warm days, and cool nights. The combination of climate and soil results in concentrated grapes with balanced acidity and great aromatic expression.
After fermentation in stainless steel to capture the grape’s freshness, the wine ages between six and eight months in new 300-litre French oak barrels. Lees contact during this time adds volume, creaminess, and complexity, while delicate toasty notes integrate with ripe fruit.
The next chapter in its journey unfolds beneath the sea. The wine is bottled in 75 cl amphorae and submerged for six months at a depth of 20 metres in the Mediterranean, near the Ebre Delta. Constant temperature, gentle movement, and natural pressure create a unique environment for slow, harmonious refinement. This stage brings an extra layer of texture and a subtle saline nuance that makes the wine truly one of a kind.
The result is a Garnacha Blanca with remarkable aromatic depth and balance. Citrus, white fruit, and dried flowers blend with mineral tones and a whisper of the sea. The palate is creamy yet fresh, with a long finish that speaks of its dual origin between land and water.
